The Paul McClean graduate trainee programme recruits and trains entry-level journalists from all walks of life for a long-term career at the FT. Alumni of this trainee scheme are well represented in senior staff of the FT and other news organisations around the world.

You should be a self-starter committed to unstintingly high standards, have a keen interest in business and global affairs, an international mindset and sharp reporting instincts.

Strong writing ability is vital, along with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced news organisation including undertaking assignments abroad.

Salary information: Year 1 - £30,000; Year 2 - £34,000; Year 3 - £38,000

Applications for the September 2026 traineeship should be open from December 2025 to January 2026.
